1-(2-Methoxyethyl)-3-Methyl-Imidazolium (c3omim) Cation

The presence of an oxigen atom in the side-chain of these ionic liquids increases their polarity, making them better solvents for metalic salts and complexes than standard bmim ionic liquids. However, it also results in higher water solubilities. They have similar viscosities to their [bmim] equivalents.
Viscosity: Cl- (solid at rt) > PF6- > BF4- > Tf2N-
Polarity: Cl- > BF4- > PF6- > Tf2N-
[c3omim][PF6] is partly soluble in water a room temperature, miscible near water boiling point.
